The eventful year of 2009 is about to wrap up, and it is time to analyze what has happened in the year passed by (well about to pass by). Experian Hitwise has done a study of the most-visited websites of 2009, and to no one’s surprise Google.com is the most searched website second year in the row and mail.yahoo.com is the second most searched website for the second consecutive year in 2009 as well.
Google.com got 6.70% of the total US traffic between January and November 2009, whereas, Yahoo mail got 4.44% visits. Facebook with 4.26% was at number 3 and Yahoo.com was at number 4 with 3.36% of the total US traffic between the said period. MySpace.com settled on number 5 with 3% of the total visits. Yahoo Search was on 8th Position. As we can see Google got just one listing in top 10, whereas, Yahoo has three. See the table below for the rest.

The result for search engine usage in the United States in the month of October 09 is out, and to no one surprise, Google topped the list with 66.1% searches. The number two on the list was Yahoo! Search with 15.4% of total searches, and number three was newly launched Bing with 9.7% of total searches. AOL (3.0%), and Ask.com (1.7%) made the rest of Top 5 search engine lists for October ‘09.

According to The Nielsen Company’s MegaView Search data, in volume terms, Google got 6.76 million searchers, where as Yahoo! Search and Bing got 1.75 million and 0.99 million search hits respectively. See the figure below for the complete data:
In the past, The Nielsen Company has also provided a report on month-on-month and year-on-year growth trend, but due to the recent methodologies change the data presented in October ’09 finding cannot be representative of any trend.

The marketing research company comScore has released the ranking of top 50 websites in the United States for the month of September, and to no one’s surprise, Google site ranked number 1. In total Google sites served 165 million visitors. Yahoo! Sites gave a close fight with 160 million US visitors, and Microsoft sites took number 3 position with 133 million visitors.
Social media giants Facebook and twittered took 5th and 46th position respectively with 95 million and 21 million visitors. Shopping giant eBay served 70 million visitors and stood at 8th position, whereas, Amazon served close to 69 million visitors to take up 9th spot.
WordPress was the only blog platform to feature in the top 50 list. WordPress sites served more than 28 million visitors to stay on number 31, way ahead of twitter. See the picture below to know the complete list of websites featuring in top 50 websites for the month of September.
