04 Feb 10 Google Still Rules the Search Roost, Recorded a 58% Rise in Search Volume
In a study conducted for December 2009 by a market research firm comScore, Inc. it was found that Google has outperformed the global search market in year-on-year (YoY) growth. Google has recorded a YoY growth of 58% in December 2009 against December 2008, whereas, search market worldwide grew by 40%.
People used Google to make 87.8 billion searches in December 2009 as against 55.6 billion searches in December 2008. Yahoo came at distant number two position with only 9.4 billion searches in the same period. Chinese search engine was at number 3 with a total search volume of 8.5 billion searches. Among the search engines that outperformed the growth of search market were: Yandex with 91% growth, Microsoft sites (70% growth), eBay (58% growth), and Facebook (54% growth).
Bing (part of Microsoft sites) looked positive, but it still has a long way to go before it could match Google’s result. It would be interesting to see from here how it does in coming months.

Let’s say Jane searched for something in Google and end-up coming to your blog. Guess what she sees at first?
Your crafty headlines? Your cleverly written articles? Your creative site description? Well, none of these. The first thing she will experience will be the look and feel of your blog. The design part, that is why, design of a blog is so important. Let me put it this way:
If content is the king, design [of a website] is the court of the king.”
It is thus important to decorate the court for the king to shine in all its glory. But the question is how to decide which blog theme to use? I am going to give you some advice that will help you decide on the blog theme for your blog. Answer the following questions before you decide on the blog theme:
- Subject matter of your blog? What is it about?
- What will be the layout? Will it be magazine style with multiple categories? Or will it be normal 2 or 3 column layout?
- How many ads do you want to place in your blog?
- What kind of theme is used by the top 3 blogs in your or related niche?
- How much breathing space (white space) is there around content, and between content and side bar?
- Is the blog looking cluttered or is it clutter-free? You will not like to have visually heavy design.
- Is it optimized for search engines?
- What about W3C validation of the codes?
- What is the color theme of the blog? Will it work for your niche? You should know that not all color scheme works with all the niches.
- Can it be customized, if need be?
Answers to these questions will give you an idea about your needs vis-à-vis blog themes available in the market. Choose the one that provides favorable answers to maximum number of questions listed above.

12 Dec 09 When to Use PPC Campaign?
SEO is very important for the success of your website, but there are times when SEO will do no good. One such situation is the time when you need immediate result. SEO cannot give that because this thing takes time. What are the other situations when you need to use PPC campaign?
- You need to use PPC campaign to pull in traffic when you need immediate result because SEO takes months before it starts showing some result.
- You can also use PPC campaign to show your search presence when getting SEO listing seems difficult. For example, if the first page result against a keyword contains links from universities, Wikipedia, Amazon, etc., then you will have to use PPC to get on the first page of SERP.
- If you are running a time-sensitive campaign, or have a product which can only be sold in one particular season or month than you will need to use PPC campaign to promote your product or service.
- If you have a new site, it will take time before search engines start showing results from your site. In such situations, you will need to use PPC campaign to reach your target audience.
- If you are using Flash, AJAX, JavaScript, or any other opaque content then you will need to use PPC to make your presence felt for the chosen keyword. Search engine spiders have hard time indexing such content.
- You can also use PPC to test your website design, keyword, landing page, etc. PPC can be a good website testing tool.
Contrary to what other thinks or preaches, PPC is not bad word. When preparing a marketing campaign do not overlook this tool. PPC may be expensive, but it is a very useful tool if used judiciously.
