Keyword density is an important concept. It tells you how many keywords you should use in an article of so many words. It tells you about the fine line that you should not cross, if your goal is to get listed by a search engine.

This is good information, but this is not all. There are many things about keyword usage that lies beyond the scope of keyword density. Following a 2% or 5% keyword density is good, as it will save you from getting blacklisted, but it will not guarantee a place in a search engine. To secure a prominent place in a search engine, you need to consider the following:

Search engine place significant weight on anchor text, so use appropriate keyword in the anchor text.
Meta keyword has lost its charm, thanks to keywords stuffers; still, putting your keywords here will not hurt you in anyway. And in some cases it may benefit you as well.
Meta keyword may have lost its charm, but meta description tag is still going strong. You should, thus, use it wisely.
Put your most important keyword as early in the title as you can because search engines give title tag a lot of weight.
Heading tags (H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, and H6) play very important role, so make sure you have keywords in these places.
Use keywords in strong, bold, and italicized texts. They matter a lot for search engines. You should provide these attributes to your keywords, at least once.
Write for the human reader, not for the search engine. Abusing keywords is not right.
Use LSI keywords to build the context of the article.
Do not stuff your article will irrelevant keywords.
Use keywords to interlink your posts.

Apart from these, you should also work towards making your website look authoritative. Along with the domain age, authority of the website also plays a major role in getting a better ranking for a website. Authority could be built in the website by writing for the users, not for the search engines. Add value to the lives of your readers, and they will consider you an authority in your domain.

Instead of discussing about any new concept, in the last two articles, we focused our attention on some of the mistakes, which if not avoided will nullify all the hard work done in terms of search engine optimization. In this article, I will share some meta tags writing tips that will prove effective in getting a better ranking in the search engine result pages (SERPs).

As we discussed earlier, meta tags plays a very critical role in SEO, and the two meta tags that are very important are meta description tags and meta keyword tags. We will be focusing our attention on these two meta tags in this article.

Writing meta description tag

Meta description tag appears below the page title of each of the search result, and it has a significant impact on the click through rate of the displayed link. When writing meta description tags, please keep the following points in mind.

A meta description should be less than 160 characters.
It should be legible for the human reader.
No two pages should have the same meta description tag.
Texts in meta description tag should reinforce the keyword used in title tag or the main keyword of the web page. Try synonyms, plurals, or other versions of the same keyword. Try different combinations as well.
Use modifiers with the other variants of keywords to reinforce the theme of the web page.
A good meta description tag can differentiate your site from other sites on the same page.

Meta Keyword Tags

Due to its nature of being susceptible to spamming, and keyword stuffing, this meta tag has lost its former glory, yet it will not hurt to optimize your page with putting the right keywords in here.

This meta tag is used primarily for the web crawlers. Your reader has nothing to do with it.
Number of keywords should not be more than three.
