The doomsayers are flat out wrong!
Social Media has become such a huge phenomenon, and many proclaimed that the rise of social media will kill blogging the way television killed the radio, or the Internet killed magazine, the newspaper, and what not. But, this time the doomsayers were flat out wrong.
Blogging did not go away, and social media didn’t become the blog-killer. It didn’t, and both co-existed amiably. What doomsayers forgot to realize that blog has a different purpose than social media. If I could draw a leaf from our life to understand what these people were saying then I will say if blogging is like the magazine you read then social media is akin to meeting you have with your friends, or may be a conference you attend.
How can a conference or friends’ gathering replace the need of magazines?
It cannot. Both are different. Rather the readership of magazine will increase because of word of mouth phenomena cutting loose during social gathering. And that is what has happened to blogging. Now more and more people are blogging on variety of different topics.
Social media has fueled the growth of blogging. Now more and more people are using their blogs to express themselves. Social media along with its status messages has brought writer out of every person. Earlier you couldn’t imaging people saying things that you see them writing on their Facebook walls.
Social media may be huge in its own right, but when it comes to blogging, even a force like Facebook is subservient to blogging. Facebook is used by the bloggers to promote them, and it doesn’t work in the opposite direction. Facebook, twitter, MySpace, and the rest have turned into mere tool for bloggers to promote themselves.
What do you think about this? Has social media become the force or will become the force that will take the place of blogging? Use the comment box below and write in.

Be honest, if you want people to talk to you, and befriend with you. This is an age-old advice given by people. This works for blogging as well, and that is the theme of today’s blog post.
Stand firm, so what it means creating controversy
If you reasonably think something said on the Internet is against what you and your friends (readers) believed in then stand as a wall to fend for your believe system, so what it means starting a controversy. Never give up fearing of controversy.
Help others and they will recognize it
We have been told this every day, and we even adhered to that, then why do not we take that principle and apply that to the online world? Help people solve their problems using your expertise. Go to the forums where you can add value and find problems and show the solution. This will establish you as an expert in the field, and your blog as an authoritative source. You will be highly rewarded for helping people out.
Talk to people commenting on your blog
I know quite a few bloggers who ask users to post a comment, but when it is done they do not reciprocate. This is not a good thing. It is like a guest is coming to your house, and instead of entertaining your guest, you are busy playing Facebook games. How good a host will you be, if you do so? Be a good host and reply all the revenant comments and carry the discussion on.
These are some of the things you need to do regularly. These by no stretch of imagination are a one-time activities. Make a calendar and follow the schedule. In time, you will see the return on the investment.

This is the question that baffles most of the newbie bloggers and some pro bloggers as well. They are not sure, until experienced enough in marketing and branding, when to change the theme of their respective blog, or should they change it at all?
Before I tell you what to do, let me put on table the pros and cons of changing the theme of your blog frequently.
Pros
- It makes the blog look fresh.
- You can stay up-to-date with the recent trend.
- A new theme will add newness to your blog.
- It will break the monotony.
Cons
- A change in the blog theme may weaken your brand.
- Your loyal readers may get alarmed (slight chance).
- Your readers will have to re-acclimatize with the new design.
- It may be perceived as a change in owner or deviation from the proven path.
Now, as we have the pros and cons of change in the blog theme in front of us, we should consider the scenario when the blog theme should be changed.
- When making a big shift, content-wise, or strategy-wise. For example: you have decided to convert your one-author blog to multi-author blog, or you have decided to give it a magazine layout, or you may have decided to add video contents, which was not possible to do without changing the theme.
- If your blog is as old as Uncle Sam. If you have been blogging since the age of Gutenberg then you need to change your blog theme to incorporate the inventions and developments ever since. The new theme will help you connect with the new audience.
- When you want to shift your focus to another group of audience, demographic or psychographic shift.
In any case, you should not change your blog theme many times a year. Change your theme at max once a year. But, in special cases like your blog is not working well with the current theme or for the current group then you can reduce the frequency, but as soon as you find the theme that works well, stick with it.
